Let the Savings Begin. Join Tech CU’s Grow Your Green Savings Challenge!

No matter what your situation is,  chances are you’re feeling the effect of our weakened economy on some level. For many Americans, it’s got them thinking more seriously about spending less and saving more.  In fact, according to a recent article in the New York Times, we’re saving more than we have in years:“The personal saving rate of 2.9 percent in the fourth quarter of 2008 was the highest since early 2002, when the country was recovering from the dot-com recession and the shock of the 9/11 attacks.” Talk about a silver lining! 

We may be trying to be thriftier these days, but the truth is that with a serious economic downturn, saving isn’t going to be easy, whether your goals are short term (a  fabulous vacation) or long term (getting that 20% down-payment for a home or paying for your children’s college). 

So what do you need to take charge, set a goal and save on a regular basis? How does ongoing online support from folks doing the same thing?  Well, you got it! Check out Grow Your Green, The Great Savings Challenge from Tech CU,  a year-long campaign we launched this week to motivate you to save for a specific goal. 

If you want to reach your savings goal and have fun doing it, then you should definitely participate in our Grow Your Green challenge.  It’s as easy as 1 – 2 – 3! 

1. Sign up for a Tech CU Savings Challenge Account by calling (800) 553-0880 or visiting your nearest Tech CU financial center. Or, if you’re enrolled in Online Banking, you can easily sign up for a Saving Challenge Account there.
2. Register your email at growyourgreencampaign.com (and we’d love you to complete a profile too, telling us what you’re saving for).
3. Save a minimum of $25 per month in your Savings Challenge Account, and you’ll be automatically entered into our monthly cash prize drawing for $100. 

On our Grow Your Green blog, you’ll also find tips, resources and financial advice, and if you participate in our Grow Your Green online community and share your progress, you are eligible to become the 2009 Super Saver and win $1,000!
